Ramblings

As i was thinking what to title today's blog, the title ramblings came to mind. I don't know if you remember S.H.Tan. Well he has gone to heaven some time ago. He used to write a column in Sunday Mail with this title. I never missed it. He was already well over 70 years of age while contributing to the paper. Very refreshing weekly read about old times and how the Malays, Chinese and Indians got along very well.

The scenario isn't actually as sweet as it was. Long gone were the good times. Halleluja to those olden days. Today we are bogged by the "Ketuanan Melayu". Who came up with this term? No guessing. UMNO of course. And for what purpose? To remain popular amongst the clansmen in order to maintain power. Our politicians are power crazy. They would want to remain in power as long as they live. Its not like they die a legend but here's Malaysian politics as a whole.

I read an article in the Harakah (PAS owned paper) where the writer maintains that 90% of the Malaysian population are pendatang. What he says is the actual fact that no one can deny. The 10% of course makes up for the indegenious like the Jakuns, Temiang, Semai and of course the ones from East Malaysia. So where does the Ketuanan Melayu come from? Aren't we all pendatang?

Any ideas on how the term "Melayu" came about? Let me explain. Indians have been plying their trade oversea for as long as only god knows. I'm not sure when they started trading oversea. Anyway they started trading in Kedah as their first port. Their landmark for Kedah port was Banjaran Titiwangsa and hence they named it "Malai Oor". Malai meaning Mountain and Oor means City or town. Malai oor malai oor malai oor and there you have it - Melayu. So basically there is no specific race called Melayu.

So, to all these people out there trying to create hatred among race just to champion their own cause or agenda, all the best. People have opened their eyes. What happened during the 12th General Elections proved it. In fact i can't wait for the 13th General Elections as I am sure all of us have the same opinion on who will form the Government.

This blog of mine may look vague or has no direction but i hope you can read between the lines. Something to ponder, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's grandmother on his mother's side comes from China, so what is he?

Damn you Parameswara................

Prime Minister Elect

I've mentioned in my previous blog that i have Umno in the agenda to blog about. Before i go further let us all congratulate Barack Obama for his far from superior win over the Republican Mc Cain. All over the world i read congratulatory messages but what shocked me was Badawi's revelation after congratulating Obama was his statement that "Any Race Can become the PM". Was he joking? INDEED I THINK HE IS. As the current Prime Minister of Malaysia, I'm sure he knows the constitution of Malaysia. What was he trying to achieve by saying that? A political milestone? For sure not for someone whose batu nisan has been written politically.

But anyway there are some people who call him Barack Hussain Obama trying to portray him as a muslim. That is one extremist. The other trying to kill his chances were some talk shows in U.S. This i watched personally. Jimmy Kimmel Live on channel 711 was one of them literally mentioning his middle name "Hussain" in order to derail his chances of becoming the President elect of United States of America. In actual fact i am opinionated that the Americans are the most racist of the lot but this time around they proved me wrong.

My last trip to India, i did meet one of the most influential and well known astrologer and asked him what was Obama's chances. He said Obama would win but will not last long. "Not last long" its for you and me to know and understand. Hope god stays with the good and prevail.

Well i digressed enough. I was going to talk about our own political scenario. We have our own Prime Minister Elect to say so. Dato Seri Najib has won the Umno elections hands down. No amount of nomination for Tengku Razaleigh (KuLi) will be enough as the minimum required for the presidency elections being 59 nominations is no more possible. And so to say, come March 2009 we will have Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak as our sixth Premier provided GOD Almighty has other plans which i deem non existent. Hail our new Premier.

This was a result that everyone expected. The deputy PM race is still on but my bet is on Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. Definitely a better choice than Ali Rustam with his heroics of presenting Shah Rukh Khan a Datukship for so called advertisement by the latter on Melaka. And his latest fete by announcing that RM 1,000 will be given to those who marry widows. Does he think all widows are desperate? He has actually portrayed women very low. What the fish? Even Mohandas our hero of the Everest adventure is without a title.

The other aspirant remains a joke to me and the divisions that have nominated him are even bigger jokers. Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib, his English proficiency being a suspect is vying to be the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia. One thing for sure, if he is elected to be the DPM, we might have to employ an interpreter when foreign dignatories are around. We wouldn't want to be ashamed when and if our DPM happens to be Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib would we? He has not qualified to contest yet and lets hope the situation remains the same.

Let us not talk about the vice presidency nominations. So far more than three have qualified. Eleven are contesting for three positions. What saddens me the most is that Syed Hamid Albar, the misfiring minister has got enough nominations to contest. If you ask me, i think he is a humiliation to the legal fraternity for constantly miscontruing himself. Why i mentioned legal profession is for the fact that he is a lawyer by profession and qualification before going into politics. Too many unqualified people to talk about. So we'll stop at that.

Let us not waste our time and go straight the Umno Youth position. Well we all know who is in the lead. None other than Mukhriz Mahathir. It is a three corner fight as all the three aspirants have qualified. The other two being none other than the infamous Khir Toyo and Khairy Jamaluddin. One would have thought that it would have been the sole horse of Khairy Jamaluddin riding high. Who would have thought that Mukhriz would be the one to lead the nominations? Well I think this situation was possible well after Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi's batu nisan in terms of political life was determined. Why not? Why would anyone want Khairy to become the youth head when he is still new into the world of politics plus new to Umno not mentioning that he became deputy head of Umno Youth just because his father in law is or was the Premier when there are others who had been there for donkey years. Enough of me using donkey as a synonym. Lets use Hyena from now on.

No matter what the outcome is in March for the other positions in UMNO, we already have our PM elect in the name of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. That will not change. Hope he does better for Malaysia. Not being sinister here if you all believe me.

All of you must be wondering why is it that i only speak about UMNO and not MIC me being an Indian. Frankly, what is there to speak? I would not want to indulge myself in something that is irrelevant. Fullstop.

Holla..hello..or whatever

It has been some time since i blogged. Nope...not having a so called writers' block. It's just that i have been really busy with work on one end plus the recent conclusion of deepavali on the other not withstanding the fact that i've also been busy taking care of my son plus managing the house. You guys must be wondering if i'm whining or just stating the facts. Let me explain.

Some time ago i was employed (co-boss so to say) and i had a good monthly stipend that takes care of all my bills. The scenario on end monthly basis was to go to the nearest ATM, press your six digit pin "number" (redundant as "pin" literally means personal identification number, but we all say it anyway) and wallah, out comes the crisp notes ready to be used in the open market. Situation is not such now. I've taken over the company plus the management and what do we have....no sales no profit...no profit means no salary. Welcome to the real world Mr. Prem Anand Mathavan. And hence i've been real busy running around all corners of Klang Valley to ensure sales stays afloat for the month and months to come by. That was one reason me being extremely busy.

I sincerely hope everyone celebrating Deepavali had a gala time. I did. All the shopping for parents, siblings and children. By the way, for those not married and intending to do so, you might want to stick to India's famous quote. At one juncture it was "We two, ours two". But what i noticed during my last trip was it has been reduced to "We two, ours one". I'm actually talking about the prices of children clothing. Niamah damn kow expensive. That was exactly the words that came from a friend of mine. Shall not mention names here.

I was back in Johor Baru with all my siblings celebrating Deepavali with my parents. Sunday morning, dad had asked me to accompany him to Sungai Tiram. Dad had ordered a whole goat. Holy goat. Pun intended. As i was making the trip there, the road leading to the slaughter house seemed familiar. I remember many donkey years ago i had taken the similar silk route for a toddy session. And to my surprise the slaughter house is at the toddy bar. The aroma of freshly collected toddy filled the air and freshly collected toddy is quite sweet. It was 10am,i looked at dad, he in turn looked at me. I said what the heck, lets have 2 kole (mugs) and true to expectation it was sweet and refreshing. And the price of one kole is RM 3.00. It used to be RM 1.00 when i had mentioned earlier the donkey years ago. Since my younger brother also likes toddy, we decided to pack 5 koles back plus the goat and its head in tow.

One minute question to english teacher sis of mine or whoever is accustomed to using the right term. The term mutton is used after the goat is slaughtered or when it is cooked? Anyway i shall term it as mutton henceforth.

This year it was my turn to chop down the mutton into pieces. It came in large chunks. It took me an hour and a half to finish chopping all of it with the exception of the head. You guys must be wondering what was i doing with the head. No, i don't have a collection of skulls. For those who watch tamil movies will understand why. Goat's head curry is a delicacy and since it was mentioned on a regular basis in tamil movies and as a person who will try anything under the sun, i requested mummy dearest to cook taalai (head) curry for me. I battled it out for 45 minutes to chop the head into pieces. That was how hard the head was. Reminded me of my elder brother's favourite quote to his legal firm staff "how do i put it into your thick skulls" aiyooooo. That is how he literally says it and means it i suppose. While all these chopping was going on which effectively gave me blisters on my hand, i was constantly thirsty. And now you guys will understand what happenned to the 4 koles of kallu(toddy). After about 2 hours, normally the toddy starts to ferment and i quietly finished packing the mutton into various packets and headed to the shower and had a short but good afternoon siesta.

Deepavali eve started with offering of food to the ones gone far and away before we proceed to have dinner and exchange of gifts and angpows. Five new shirts and i remember there are at least 2 other shirts from previous deepavali that i have not worn. Enough already about deepavali as everyone would have done the same thing on deepavali day like cooking, filling up jars with cookies, observing guests and occasionally running to the refrigerator to quench the thirst if you guys know what i mean.

I enjoy tremendously looking after my son but sometimes it can be tiring. As most of you if not all would have known by now that my wife dearest is pregnant with our second child going into the 5th month and hence she gets tired easily. I help around the house as much as i can and while doing all these i will be thanking god and counting the days. As of today i will thank god and say 24 days left my dear god. Yes, i'm counting the days when finally my maid will be arriving. It took 8 maid agencies before we could get one. And pricey pricey. She cost me RM 8k and hopefully she'll last the whole 2 years duration. She better.

I actually have something to talk about on UMNO elections which i will do soon. Buhbye
